A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASKETBALL COACH BOB WEATHERS FOR HIS 800TH WIN.
WHEREAS, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will honor Head Basketball Coach Bob Weathers for his 800th win with a reception at the Liaison on the Perkinston campus on March 29, 1999; and
WHEREAS, in the entire 60-year history of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), only three other coaches have ever reached the lofty plateau of recording 800 victories; and
WHEREAS, Weathers' career tally sheet lists an 815 victories against just 306 losses, a mark that includes nine state championships and three trips to Hutchinson, Kansas, for the national tournament -- 1990, 1991, and 1993; and
WHEREAS, Bob Weathers began his coaching career as an assistant for two seasons at the University of Southern Mississippi, his alma mater, before guiding Picayune High School for one season; and
WHEREAS, in 1960, then Gulf Coast President Dr. J.J. Hayden, Jr., chose Weathers to lead the Bulldogs' fortunes, and Gulf Coast fans have been thankful ever since; and
WHEREAS, Bob Weathers entered the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Hall of Fame in 1994 and averages an astounding 21 wins per season against an average of just five losses; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend and recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of its citizens:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Basketball Coach Bob Weathers upon his 800th win.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be furnished to Bob Weathers and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
